Health officials are investigating rising numbers of serious yeast infections in England in the past year, including cases involving Candidozyma auris (formerly known as Candida auris) that can resist many common treatments.
Data from the UK Health Security Agency show that bloodstream infections caused by yeast rose by 4% from 2023 to 2024 (an increase from 2170 to 2247 reports).1 This meant that in 2024 the rate of bloodstream infections caused by yeast was 3.9 per 100 000 population in England, up from to 3.8 in 2023, show figures in the agency’s latest health protection report.2
